The National Lottery Heritage Fund Project

In September 2016, St Mary’s Church, Sutterton won a Heritage Lottery Fund for support for repairs and improvements to the church.

Thanks to National Lottery players, development funding in the sum of £25,500 has been awarded to the PCC to help them progress their plans towards an application for a full grant at a later date.

Repairs to the Church will consist of:

  • renewal of the lead and some roof timbers of the north transept
  • extensive work on the masonry of the north transept and the clerestory walls of the nave
  • additional to the repairs, a lavatory and a proper servery will be built into the church.

A consequence of the project will be to ensure the continued and widened use by the building by the whole community of Sutterton.

News of this work will be updated via our blog with various news features, photos and architectural drawings of the plans ahead for the church.  We will be adding a gallery on this page, to show these photographs as well.

Jonathan Platt, Head of HLF East Midlands, said: “Historic places of worship like St Mary’s have fascinating stories to tell, and are so often at the heart of local communities. National Lottery players’ support will help address urgent conservation needs and share the heritage of the church widely, so we look forward to seeing how plans develop over the coming months”.
