13th October
Within our Jelly Church calendar, the October gathering is without doubt the most popular.
This is the month where we celebrate Halloween by carving pumpkins for our doorsteps
25 Children turned up plus 2 babies (it’s never too early to join in) together with their parents, ready to get both mucky and creative.
Before getting to grips with the Pumpkins we started our session with a tea which this month consisted of pizza, cocktail sausages, sausage rolls, crisps, cakes, a drink and of course a bowl of JELLY. Unfortunately our Jelly Church Crew Member who is a Whizz at baking cakes was not well enough to help this month and so we had to buy in some shop made cakes. There were a mixture of Fairy cakes, chocolate mini rolls and cakes decorated with a Halloween theme. They may not have been as nice as our home made cakes but they were still devoured with relish.
A local farmer generously donated us with 30 beautiful pumpkins and whilst tea was being consumed, ‘Steve’, one of our parents kindly cut open the tops of each pumpkin so that the children could start the task of removing the flesh and seeds from the inside of the pumpkins. A mucky job enjoyed by all.
Some of the children drew designs on the outside of their pumpkin in order that with the aid of their parent(s) their designs could be carefully cut out; whilst others were happy to be assisted by their parents through both the design and cutting stages.
Father Mark joined us both to help and to interact with the children and the parents present, and tea lights were lit and placed inside the finished carved pumpkins as they would be on Halloween itself. There was a great selection of designs ranging from funny to scary.
The children picked up their pumpkins and gathered together for a photo to be taken by one of the parents, some had their pumpkin on the floor in front of them whilst others held theirs

At the end Father Mark led the children (and the adults) in a clap along song and said a prayer which the children joined in.
Many thanks to the parents who helped with the tidying up.
After a delightful afternoon the children took their pumpkins home.
Next Month our Jelly Church will be held on the 10th November, where we shall be creating Christmas decorations.
The Jelly Church Crew look forward to seeing you all on the 10TH November at 3.30pm.
