Jelly Church July 2022

Jelly Church July 2022

Jelly Church July 2022 1024 687 Sutterton Parish Church

Our July Jelly Church took place on a beautiful, sunny afternoon and was held outdoors. Our theme was a “Teddy Bear Picnic” with the added attraction of watching your favourite cuddly toy descend from the top of the Church Tower to the grounds of the Church below.

It all happened by Zipwire!

Father Charlie had installed the Zip wire on the previous day and was actioned to ensure all teddies got at least one ride and arrived back safely with their owners.

As usual we began with afternoon tea consisting of pizza, cocktail sausages, sausage rolls, crisps, some lovely iced cakes and a drink plus of course Jelly. Boy were those teddies hungry.

Once again the numbers were disappointing with only 8 children in attendance against our pre-Covid figures of 30, but with parents and a selection of teddies and other cuddly toys including dinosaurs, lions and pretty dolls, the afternoons activities were enjoyed by all.

The Revd. Sue was on hand to collect our daredevil teddies and other toys and ensure that they reached the top of the tower in their cable car (in reality a carrier bag).  This is where Father Charlie was waiting to make sure teddy had the thrill of a lifetime.

Back on Mother Earth

Down on the ground there were some tears at first as some did not want to part with their much loved cuddly toy.   But with the help of parents and the Jelly Church Crew, everyone eventually agreed to let their toys take the ride to the top of the tower and one by one they descended into the arms of their owners. The tears turned to shrieks of laughter and cries of ‘again’ ‘again’. The teddies enjoyed their afternoon so much that they ended up having multiple rides.

To add to the carnival atmosphere the Jelly Church Crew laid on Bubbles, Balloons and a few games as well.

At the end of the day, teddies (and not forgetting dinosaurs, lions and pretty dolls) and their owners returned home having had a great afternoon.

Our thanks go to Rev’d Sue and Father Charlie for all their help on the day

We will not be holding a Jelly Church in August, but we will be back in September when we shall have an afternoon of activity plus a BBQ.
